Statuario Unbound: The Architecture of Texture and Form
In the lexicon of luxury stone, Statuario White (Fish Maw White) is revered for its dramatic, electrifying grey veining against a crystalline backdrop. However, in this recent commission, the goal was not merely to display the stone, but to transform it. We moved beyond the flat slab, utilizing advanced fabrication to give the stone rhythm, volume, and curvature.
The Rhythm of Texture: CNC Fluted Panels The defining feature of the lobby's soaring elevation (Images 5 & 6) is the extensive use of linear fluted cladding. Creating these rhythmic, concave grooves in a stone as brittle as Statuario requires delicate engineering. As seen in the factory detail (Image 1), we employed Stone Aluminum Honeycomb Composite technology. By bonding a thin veneer of marble to an aerospace-grade aluminum core, we achieved the structural stability necessary to mill deep flutes without fracturing the stone. This composite approach also significantly reduced the dead load on the high walls.
The Volume of Form: 5-Axis Sculpting While the walls celebrate linearity, other architectural elements required fluid geometry. Image 2 captures our massive 5-Axis Diamond Wire Saw in action, slicing through a solid block to create complex, curved profiles. This process allows us to liberate organic shapes from the quarry block, minimizing waste while achieving monolithic curvature that segmented tiling cannot replicate.
The Precision of Detail: Contemporary Boiserie Bridging the gap between classic and modern, we also fabricated bespoke stone boiserie panels (Image 4). These large-format pieces feature raised, profiled moldings integrated directly into the slab. The challenge here is vein continuity—ensuring the dramatic grey strikes of the Statuario flow uninterrupted across the flat plane and up over the raised frame, a detail verified in our rigorous factory dry-lay process (Image 3).
This project serves as a manifesto of our capabilities: whether lightweight fluted composites, massive solid curves, or intricate classical detailing, we engineer Statuario to fit any architectural vision.
