The New Rococo: Reinterpreting Classical Luxury in a Shenzhen Residence
In the exclusive enclave of a private Shenzhen estate, the brief was uncompromising: create an interior that rivals the European palaces of old, but with the clean lines and technical precision of the 21st century. The result is a masterclass in Stone Boiserie—the art of treating marble not just as a surface, but as fine joinery.
The foundation of this residence is the extensive use of Polished Cream Marble (likely a high-grade Crema Marfil or Botticino). However, it is the manipulation of this stone that defines the space.
Stone Boiserie: The Evolution of Wainscoting As evidenced in the factory quality-control photos (Image 4), the wall cladding is not merely tiled. It is engineered. We fabricated full-height stone panels featuring raised, CNC-profiled moldings. This technique mimics the traditional wooden wainscoting found in French salons but renders it in the permanent, cool touch of natural stone. The factory dry-lay process was essential to ensure that the veins flowed uninterrupted across the molded frames, creating a seamless architectural envelope.
The Art of Bas-Relief Transitioning through the corridors (Image 3), the stone serves as a canvas. We integrated a stunning floral bas-relief (shallow carving) directly into the wall cladding. This botanical motif creates a tactile interplay of light and shadow, softening the hardness of the material and turning a structural wall into a permanent art installation.
Jewels of the Staircase While the walls whisper in monochromatic beige, the staircase (Image 1) sings. The balustrade is a striking juxtaposition of materials. We utilized Verde Malachite-toned Onyx for the balusters, accented with gilded metalwork. This splash of vibrant, deep green acts as the "jewelry" of the home, anchoring the grand void of the double-height living room.
The Grand Floor The living room flooring (Image 2) grounds the design with a perimeter of Waterjet Inlay. The intricate border frames the space, defining the seating area without the need for physical barriers.
This Shenzhen Villa stands as a testament to the "Bespoke" approach. It proves that with advanced fabrication—from 3D relief carving to precision molding—stone can be as malleable and intricate as the finest woodwork.
